Whatcha Think 'Bout Wednesday (4)

The question making itself around the blogosphere has been...

Do Book Bloggers Sell Books?

Personally, in my experience, I believe that book bloggers do sell books.  Half of my books that I have purchased come at the recommendation of a Book Blogger.
I still find the whole situation that sparked this question comical but since it has been asked I have answered.

Want some proof?

Here is a post made by Ginger at GReads.  She'll tell you what she bought at the recommendation of others.

Want a quick off-the-top-of-my-head list of books I have purchased because of a book blogger's recommendation or seeing it on their blog?

The Secret Year by Jennifer L Hubbard : saw it at The Story Siren
Anna & The French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins: sat it at Anna Reads
The Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning: heard about it from Bibliophile Brouhaha and Supernatural Snark
Personal Demons by Lisa Desrochers: it is all Call Me Crazy Katie talks about, lol

Here are some more books in which I KNOW I have only purchased after reading what another Book Blogger had to say about them. Although, due to the fact that a lot of my books do come at the recommendation of book bloggers I can not remember off the top of my head each and every recommendation.

The Clearing, Fall For Anything, All You Get, The Healer's Apprentice, Dead Beautiful, Kiss Me Kill Me, Nevermore, The Water Wars, If I Stay, Forgive My Fins, Glimmerglass, The Summer I Turned Pretty, Dash & Lily's Book of Dares, The Hunger Games Series, Coffeehouse Angel, Rhymes with Cupid, The Ghost and the Goth...

So, do you think Book Bloggers sell?

  1. That's quite the list and even more proof that book bloggers sell books.

I read many books because of recommendations on book blogs. Unfortunately, I don't buy all of the books I read. I wish I had the money to do that, but I'm working part time and trying to publish a book, so it's just not possible!

The good news is that if I do get a book for free from a contest or the library and like it, I'm much more apt to buy another book from the author because I know it's worth my money.

There are some books that are recommended so often that I don't wait for them to arrive in the library. For example, over the past week or two, I bought "The DUFF" and "I Am Number Four" based on multiple blogger recommendations.

Last but not least, I think book blogger challenges encourage readers to buy books. I'm participating in the 2011 YA Debut Author challenge, which means I'll be reading 12 novels from debut authors. Will most of those books be available from the library right away? No. I've already purchased one book through the challenge, and my next purchase on my Kindle will be another challenge book that came out this week.

Sorry to ramble, but I totally agree with you. Book bloggers do sell books!

  2. Oh I'm so glad to see more book bloggers discussing this! It just proves our point even more. I seriously wouldn't know what books to buy if it weren't for you all. My TBR list keeps growing & growing! I have come across some pretty amazing books b/c I read outstanding reviews on other blogs. Isn't that a part of why we do this?! To share our love (and sometimes hate unfortunately) for books?!

    Thank you for the mention!

  3. YES! I haven't been a blogger for long, but before that I was a reader of blogs. I was always checking out reviews and adding books to my Goodreads shelves. Blogs are where I got most of my recommendations from.

  4. I don't know if I help sell books but I know other book bloggers most definitely sell books. A new book is added to my TBR practically everyday because I discover books on blogs almost everyday and I buy almost 10 books a month. Don't tell me book bloggers aren't contributing to the economy.

  5. I know book bloggers sell books. I've bought many of books off of recommendations or reviews from bloggers. It may not be one single blogger, but as a community with many opinions and reviews I think lots of books are sold. The more great reviews I read about a book the more likely I am to buy it. I've also bought books for challenges I signed up for through blogs.

  6. Before I was a blogger I just followed tons or blogs to find out about new books. I didn't order a book or go to a bookstore without a list of books others recommended.

And even now as a blogger, I still listen to what other bloggers say about books.

  7. I pretty much said it all in a similar post earlier this week, but I absolutely think bloggers sell books - and not always just on our blogs. We tell people we know, and a few we don't, about the books we love all the time. I recommend books to anyone who will listen.
